Notable Storylines

Ogunbowale Adds Another Accolade…  Wings franchise scoring leader Arike Ogunbowale added her name to the top of yet another ledger as she became the Wings leader in career field goals made on Tuesday at Seattle. Ogunbowale made seven field goals against the Storm to move ahead of Deanna Nolan with 1,477 career buckets. In addition to career points, Ogunbowale is also tops in Wings history in three-pointers made and free-throws made, while listing second behind Nolan in steals and assists.

Bueckers Makes History Again…  With her 14 points and team-high six assists on Tuesday at Seattle, rookie guard Paige Bueckers tied Caitlin Clark for fastest in WNBA history to reach 300 points and 100 assists, doing so in 19 games. She enters Friday’s game at Golden State with 345 points and 105 assists. Bueckers is the lone player in the WNBA to rank in the top 10 this season in scoring (9th, 18.2), assists (8th, 5.5) and steals (6th, 1.7).

Quinerly Defying The Odds…  Since 2000, only 10 WNBA Third Round Draft selections have averaged at least five points per game in their rookie season. JJ Quinerly, the 27th overall pick in 2025, will look to become the 11th since 2000 and 24th overall to do so. Her scoring average (7.1) currently ranks 11th all-time among third-round picks in their rookie seasons, which includes the 1997 and 1999 Drafts when players from other professional leagues were eligible.  She also ranks third in 2025 among third-round picks behind Temi Fágbénlé (8.2) and Sug Sutton (7.4) – Fágbénlé was the 35th overall selection in 2016 and Sutton 36th in 2020.

A Change Can Do You Good … The Wings traded for center Li Yueru on June 14 with Yueru making her Dallas debut against the Golden State Valkyries on June 17. In 12 games with the Wings, Yueru is averaging 8.8 points and 7.4 rebounds, including a career-high showing of 15 rebounds in the win over the Atlanta Dream on June 24. She has notched three double-doubles, including a season-high 18 points and 10 boards at Chicago on July 9. Over nine games with the Seattle Storm this season, she was averaging 2.8 points and 1.6 rebounds and had zero double-digit points or rebounding games.

The Rooks In July…  Dallas newcomers own three of the top four spots among WNBA rookies in scoring and the top three slots in assists for the month of July. Paige Bueckers ranks first among all rookies in scoring at 17.7, followed by JJ Quinerly at 15.0 and Aziaha James in fourth at 11.8. For assists, Bueckers also leads all rookies in July with her 5.0 average, followed in second by Quinerly (4.8), while James is third at 3.3 per game.
