Notable Storylines
2025 WNBA All-Star… Paige Bueckers made her WNBA All-Star Game debut on Saturday in Indianapolis, becoming the 10th rookie selected as a starter. Bueckers made the first shot of the game – a four-pointer – before finishing with six points, two rebounds and eight assists. The eight dimes match the most in Wings franchise history for an All-Star Game.
Quinerly Defying The Odds… Since 2000, only 10 WNBA Third Round Draft selections have averaged at least five points per game in their rookie season. JJ Quinerly, the 27th overall pick in 2025, will look to become the 11th since 2000 and 24th overall to do so. Her scoring average (7.0) currently ranks 11th all-time among third-round picks in their rookie seasons, which includes the 1997 and 1999 Drafts when players from other professional leagues were eligible. She also ranks third in 2025 among third-round picks behind Temi Fágbénlé (8.2) and Sug Sutton (8.3) – Fágbénlé was the 35th overall selection in 2016 and Sutton 36th in 2020.
A Change Can Do You Good … The Wings traded for center Li Yueru on June 14 with Yueru making her Dallas debut against the Golden State Valkyries on June 17. In 11 games with the Wings, Yueru is averaging 8.9 points and 7.2 rebounds, including a career-high showing of 15 rebounds in the win over the Atlanta Dream on June 24. She has notched three double-doubles, including a season-high 18 points and 10 boards at Chicago on July 9. Over nine games with the Seattle Storm this season, she was averaging 2.8 points and 1.6 rebounds and had zero double-digit points or rebounding games.
The Rooks In July… Dallas newcomers own the top three spots among WNBA rookies in both scoring in assists for the month of July. Paige Bueckers ranks first among all rookies in scoring at 18.4, followed by JJ Quinerly at 16.2 and Aziaha James in third at 12.8. For assists, Quinerly leads all rookies in July with her 5.0 average, followed in second by Bueckers (4.8), while James is third at 3.8 per game.
Rise Of The Rookies… While No. 1 overall draft pick Paige Bueckers gets a lot of the headlines, two other Dallas Wing rookie guards have been progressing at a rapid pace. Over the first 13 games of the season, Aziaha James averaged just 2.0 points per game, with her highest output being nine points. Since then, James has scored in double figures in eight of the last 10 contests, including the second-highest showing by a rookie in the WNBA this season with her 28-point outing in the July 3 win over Phoenix. She has averaged 13.2 points per game over the last 10 contests. Similarly, JJ Quinerly averaged just 3.1 points per game over the first 17 games. Since being moved into the starting lineup, Quinerly has averaged 16.0 points per game, including a career-high 18 points in the July 7 setback at the Mercury. Dallas boasts four of the top-13 rookie scorers in the WNBA this season, including league-leader Bueckers, James (No. 7), Quinerly (No. 11) and Luisa Geiselsöder (No. 13).
