Notable Storylines
Injuries Adding Up … With eight players on the game status report again for Monday, injuries continue to make headlines for the Dallas Wings. Through Friday’s game at the Atlanta Dream, Dallas players have missed a combined 114 games due to injury or absence. No Wings player has been available for all 40 games this season.
Bueckers Approaching Milestone … Paige Bueckers 25 points away from taking over the top spot on the Wings franchise rookie scoring list. Over 32 games played, Bueckers has totaled 606 points. Teammate Arike Ogunbowale is the current franchise record holder for points in a rookie campaign, totaling 630 over 33 games in 2019. Bueckers has scored in double figures in 31 of 32 games and eclipsed the 20-point mark on 15 occasions – seventh most in WNBA history for a rookie.
Amazing Amy … The Dallas Wings signed Amy Okonkwo to a seven-day hardship contract on Aug. 21. In four games with the Wings, she has averaged 11.3 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting over 53 percent from the field and over 33 percent from three. Okonkwo has the third-highest scoring average among undrafted players over their first four games. She was signed to a second seven-day contract on Friday prior to the Dream game.
Back With A Bang … After missing 18 games recovering from a knee injury, third-year forward Maddy Siegrist returned to the lineup on Aug. 5 and has been on fire ever since. Over the last 11 games, Siegrist has averaged 16.0 points per game, shooting over 56-percent from the field. Siegrist set a career high with 23 points against the Aces on Aug. 17. Prior to her injury, Siegrist was averaging 9.4 points per game while shooting .433 from the field.
Wings Add Christyn Williams … The Wings signed guard Christyn Williams to an extreme hardship contract, the team announced on Friday. Williams was the No. 14 overall pick by the Washington Mystics in the 2022 WNBA Draft, but suffered a season-ending injury prior to the start of the 2022 campaign. She spent time with the Phoenix Mercury in the 2023 season, while signing a training camp contract with the Minnesota Lynx this past February. She competed at Athletes Unlimited this past March, averaging 7.8 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. Williams also competed at this summer’s 3×3 Basketball Association (3XBA) in Spokane, alongside current Wings Serena Sundell and Amy Okonkwo. Williams played four seasons at the University of Connecticut, including two alongside current Wings teammate Paige Bueckers. She earned the 2022 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award as the nation’s top shooting guard, and helped lead the Huskies to three Final Four appearances.
