Another Historic Night For Bueckers … Paige Bueckers scored a WNBA rookie record 44 points on Wednesday night at the Los Angeles Sparks, shooting 17-21 from the field, 4-4 from three and 6-6 from the free-throw line. Among the notables from that performance:
  • Set the WNBA rookie scoring record, recording the most points by a rookie in a single game in league history (44).
    • The WNBA first-year player record of 44 was set by Cynthia Cooper in the first season of the WNBA (1997), when all players were ‘first year’; the true rookie record was held by Candace Parker who scored 40 points in 2008
  • Broke the record for most points in a game by a rookie in franchise history.
  • Became the first player in league history to score 40+ points while shooting at least 80% from the field.
  • Recorded the most points in a game by a player this season.
  • Tied the franchise record for most field goals made in a game (17).
  • Moved to No. 1 in franchise history for most double-digit scoring games in a rookie season (29).
  • Tied Arike Ogunbowale for No. 2 in franchise history for most 35+ point games in a rookie season (2).
  • Set career-highs in both points and field goals made.
Back With A Bang … After missing 18 games recovering from a knee injury, third-year forward Maddy Siegrist returned to the lineup on Aug. 5 and has been on fire ever since. Over the last eight games, Siegrist has averaged 15.3 points per game, shooting over 55-percent from the field. Siegrist set a career high with 23 points against the Aces on Sunday. Prior to her injury, Siegrist was averaging 9.4 points per game while shooting .433 from the field.
Wings Sign Amy Okonkwo … The Dallas Wings signed 6-2 forward Amy Okonkwo to a seven-day hardship contract, the team announced on Thursday. The two-time FIBA AfroBasket MVP (2023, 2025) made her debut on Friday against the Seattle Storm. Okonkwo is from Fontana, Calif., and played collegiately at the University of Southern California (2014-2015) and nearby Fort Worth’s Texas Christian University (TCU) (2016-2019), where she earned Big 12 Sixth Player of the Year honors in 2018. Okonkwo is also a two-time Olympian, playing with the Nigerian women’s national team in the 2020 Tokyo and 2024 Paris Olympics. Okonkwo played professionally for Bourges in France during the 2024-25 season, averaging 14.2 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting nearly 48 percent from three. She appeared in two preseason games with the Connecticut Sun earlier this year after being signed to a training camp contract, averaging 7.0 points and 4.0 rebounds.
