Dallas Wings to Host Juneteenth Celebration at Annual African American Heritage Night this Saturday
ARLINGTON, TX – The Dallas Wings will host their Juneteenth Celebration on the team’s annual African American Heritage Night on Saturday, June 17 against the Seattle Storm. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Wings Juneteenth t-shirt. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at College Park Center. Doors open at Noon.
Local favorite Rueben Lael will perform the National Black Anthem as a part of the game’s pregame activities. During the game, Black Sports Professionals of North Texas will be presented with a contribution from the Dallas Wings Community Foundation to assist in providing scholarships for high school, undergraduate and graduate students seeking or pursuing careers in the sports industry. Local HBCU Paul Quinn College will also be highlighted during the game.
Halftime entertainment will be courtesy of the award-winning XPlosive Grenades Step Team. The game will also feature performances by the Bandan Koro African Drum & Dance Ensemble and Clover the Violinist. Fans will also be able to participate in Urban Trivia, a widely popular black-owned card game.
The ‘Crown Cam’ will make its Dallas Wings debut as well which will serve as a nod to Texas State Representative Rhetta Bowers, who was instrumental in passing the Crown Act (House Bill No. 567), which bans racial discrimination based on hair texture or hairstyle in schools, employment, and housing. WFAA’s Tashara Parker will also be in attendance to assist with this and several activations.
