The Dallas Wings have acquired forward Katie Lou Samuelson from the Chicago Sky and Chicago’s 2021 first round draft pick in exchange for forward Azura Stevens, the team announced today.
Samuelson was the fourth overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft after playing four years at UConn. While in Storrs, Samuelson averaged 16.8 points over her 140 career games and shot 49.1 percent from the field and 41.6 percent from beyond the arc. Her 382 made career three-pointers ranks second in program history. Samuelson logged 7.6 minutes per game her rookie season while battling injuries. The Huntington Beach, California native appeared in 10 games for Team USA in the last year, averaging 6.6 points per game in 15.1 minutes played and was named to the Team USA 3×3 training camp roster alongside Wings guard Allisha Gray.
“Katie Lou brings a versatile game to Dallas, headlined by her ability to hit shots from anywhere on the court,” stated Dallas Wings President & CEO Greg Bibb. “With her length and basketball IQ, I see her playing multiple positions for us, with the three being where she logs the most minutes. I think the addition of Katie Lou will help us spread the court and create additional challenges for the opposing defense. We need shooters and Katie Lou meets that need.”

Stevens, who only played in nine games in 2019 due to injury, was selected sixth overall by the Wings in the 2018 WNBA Draft.
