Game Preview: Dallas Wings vs. Las Vegas Aces – June 5

Arlington, TX (June 4, 2024) – The Dallas Wings return home to College Park Center for the first time since May 18 when they host the reigning WNBA Champions Las Vegas Aces on Wednesday evening. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. CT, with the game airing on Bally Sports Southwest Extra and NBA TV. Ron Thulin and Naismith Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman will be on the call, with ShaVonne Herndon on sideline duties.

The Wings (3-4) are coming off a five-game road swing which concluded Sunday with an 87-76 setback at the Minnesota Lynx in the opening game of the Commissioner’s Cup. The Aces (4-2) last played on Friday at the Atlanta Dream, falling 78-74. The Wings and Aces met seven times in 2023, including a three-game WNBA Semifinal series. Las Vegas took 3-of-4 during the regular season before earning the playoff sweep in September.

1 vs. 2 Part II

The WNBA’s top two scorers will go toe-to-toe on Wednesday night, marking the second time this season Arike Ogunbowale will be featured in such a battle. Ogunbowale is the W’s top scorer at 26.6 ppg, including a single-game high of 40 points on 5/25 at Phoenix. The performance in Phoenix came against then-leading scorer Kahleah Copper, as Ogunbowale entered the contest as the league’s No. 2 scorer. The Las Vegas Aces have the WNBA’s No. 2 scorer in A’ja Wilson, who is averaging 26.5 ppg.

Postseason Rematch

Wednesday’s showdown with the Las Vegas Aces will be a rematch of last season’s WNBA Semifinals. The Wings won their first postseason series since 2009 with a 2-0 sweep of the Atlanta Dream in the First Round, before falling to the Aces in three games in the Semifinals.

Dallas has dominated the inside game as the Wings lead the WNBA in rebounding (37.6), blocked shots (6.3), second-chance points (19.7) and points in the paint (44.9). Wednesday’s opponent, the Las Vegas Aces, ranks third in rebounding (36.8), sixth in blocked shots (4.5), ninth in second-chance points (10.3) and eighth in points in the paint (32.3)

Commissioner’s Cup Continues On

Wednesday’s game will be the Wings’ second Commissioner’s Cup game and the first for the Las Vegas Aces. The New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun are atop the Cup Standings in the Eastern Conference, with the Liberty holding the point differential advantage (36-19), while the Phoenix Mercury and Minnesota Lynx lead the way in the Western Conference, with Phoenix leading in point differential, 19-11.
