Cambage’s Career Night Leads Wings Past Aces

ARLINGTON, TX – Liz Cambage dominated the Las Vegas Aces, tying a career high with 28 points and recording a career-high 18 rebounds, improving the Wings record to 5-4 with a 77-67 victory at College Park Center.

The Aces scored first and jumped out to a 16-13 lead midway through the first quarter behind Kayla McBride’s 11 points in the first six minutes. The Wings used 12-5 run to close out the quarter and take a 25-21 lead after the opening period. Skylar Diggins-Smith led the Wings in the first quarter with 11 points.

The Wings used a 14-2 run led by the duo of Cambage and Diggins-Smith to take a 13-point lead – their largest of the game. The All-Star tandem combined for 32 first-half points, the most in the opening half this season, giving the Wings a 45-39 lead at the break.

The two teams battled in the third quarter, with the Aces clawing back to within two before the Wings extended the lead to six, 62-56, after three quarters of play.

A 7-0 run by the Aces brought them within two midway through the fourth quarter, but an 8-0 Wings run to close the game secured the victory, 77-67. Cambage’s career performance helped the Wings pick up their fifth win of the season. Diggins-Smith recorded 20 points and six assists in 38 minutes. Glory Johnson scored 11 points off the bench and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds, while Kaela Davis added 10 points in her third consecutive start.

The Wings outscored the Aces 48-26 in the paint and outrebounded them 43-27. The 48 points in the paint tied a season high, while the 43-rebound performance marks the second 40-rebound game of the season for the Wings.

The Aces were led by Kayla McBride, who scored 22 points on 7-for-13 from the field, including 2-for-2 from long range.

The Wings will travel to Minnesota on Tuesday to take on the defending champion Lynx. The Lynx beat the Wings 76-68 in their first meeting of the season. The Wings will return home for a two-game homestand after Minnesota where they will take on the Los Angeles Sparks on June 22 and the Seattle Storm on June 24.
