Wings Rise Over Sky, 84 – 78

Chicago, Illinois (August 2, 2022) – The Dallas Wings (14-16) rose over the Chicago Sky (23-8), 84 – 78, at Wintrust Arena, Tuesday night.

Marina Mabrey led the Wings with a season-high 26 points while grabbing three steals and dishing out four assists. She was joined at the 20-point plateau by Wings center Teaira McCowan, who dropped 20 points and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for her third straight double-double. Veteran forward Kayla Thornton rounded out Dallas’ double-digit scorers, netting 11.

All-Rookie candidate Veronica Burton made the first start of her WNBA career, recording eight points and dishing out a WNBA rookie season-high tying nine assists. She also made four free throws in the final five minutes of the contest, remaining perfect from the free throw line this season. As a team, the Wings were a perfect 12-12 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. With Burton cracking the starting lineup, Dallas becomes the only franchise in the WNBA who has started a drafted rookie at least once in each of the past seven seasons.

Dallas returns home for the final home stretch of the season, taking on the Las Vegas Aces (22 – 9) on Thursday, August 4, at 7:00 p.m. CT on Bally Sports Southwest Extra and ESPN3.
