Wings Make Strong Push To The Playoffs Defeating The Dream 90-86

Arlington, TX – The Dallas Wings continued their push to the playoffs tonight, defeating the Atlanta Dream, 90-86.

All five starters recorded double figure, with Glory Johnson leading all starters for the seventh time this season with 23 points and 13 rebounds. It was Johnson’s 13th overall double-double and fifth consecutive for the season. The five consecutive ties a career high for the most games in a row to record that mark.

Right out of the gates, the Wings and Dream were in a battle, tying the game twice in the first quarter, staying neck to neck, until Johnson found Skylar Diggins-Smith for the three, to take a 20-16 lead with 2:14 left, and end the quarter up by four with a 25-21 score.

Coming out of the half the Wings stayed on top taking their biggest lead of the night of 16 points. In the final quarter of play, the Dream pulled themselves up to be within three late, but the Wings had other answers when a foul was called on Atlanta, to send Karima Christmas-Kelly to the line and put the team up by five.

For the night, the Wings ended with a total of 43 rebounds, just four shy from breaking a season high. Skylar Diggins-Smith recorded her first double-double of the season ending the night with 17 points and 11 assists. Allisha Gray also brought in double figures with a total of 15 points, while Karima Christmas-Kelly scored 11. Theresa Plaisance had a season breaking night recording her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The 10 boards are a new career high.

Off the bench, Aerial Powers came out strong, lifting the bench up with 12 points, six total boards and two assists.

Up next for the Wings is a three-game road stint, as they finish their series against the east. Dallas will head to Connecticut to take on the Sun next Wednesday, August 23, and will head to Washington to take on the Mystics a week from tonight in D.C. The team will round out the road trip in Chicago, when they take on the Sky, August 31. The Wings return home for their final regular home season game on September 3, for Fan Appreciation Day.
