The Dallas Wings fell 75-74 to the Washington Mystics on Friday, June 2 at Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. in a game that saw six lead changes, 9 tie scores and 16 points in the final minute and a half.

Natasha Howard and Satou Sabally both finished the evening with double-doubles after Howard recorded 16 points and a season-high 13 rebounds, while Sabally recorded 18 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. Sabally’s double-double represents her third of the season and tenth of her career. The last time the Wings had two players with a double-double in the same game was September 2, 2021 vs. the Atlanta Dream (Isabelle Harrison and Allisha Gray). Additionally, Sabally dished out a career high seven assists.

Recently crowned Kia Western Conference Player of the Month, Arike Ogunbowale totaled 18 points, while dishing out six assists tonight to tie her season high.

Veronica Burton recorded her first multi-three game of the season, sinking her first at 6:22 in the first quarter and a second at 6:19 in the third quarter to complete a 7-0 Wings’ run.

The Wings came out strong from halftime and scored a season-high 27 points in the third, while holding the Mystics under 20 points in the quarter. The third quarter was a glimpse of what this Wings team can do in Head Coach Latricia Trammell’s eyes.

“I love the fight in this team. As you know, we had opportunities to win it. We had some open looks, good looking shots. It just didn’t go our way. And I think about this too, that it’s a one point game against a very good veteran team. And we’re right there. That is definitely promising, but it’s not going to get any easier.”

Rookie Maddy Siegrist sunk her first basket of the game within her first minute on the court. Her second basket game with 30 seconds left in the third quarter that allowed the Wings to come within a single point of the Mystics after trailing by 10 just three minutes prior.

A defensive battle throughout, the Wings held the Mystics to an opponent season-low 14 points in the opening quarter. While holding the Mystics to a season-low 34.2 field goal percentage, the Wings were tested by Washington’s defense as well.

“I just don’t see our team missing those open looks like we did tonight consistently,” said Trammell. “I mean, this team we’re averaging, before this, second in the league in scoring, 90 plus points. And we had open looks and so they’ll fall. I just told the team to keep shooting. And I mean that’s the game of basketball.”

The Wings will continue their road stint in Connecticut, where they will take on the Suns on Sunday, June 4 at 12:00 p.m. CT with coverage on Bally Sports Southwest Extra.
