INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – The Wings moved to 14-13 on the season with an 84-78 loss to the Indiana Fever, despite Liz Cambage’s 37-point performance.
The Fever raced out to a 11-7 lead, but the Wings countered with a 10-0 run in the first quarter to go up 17-11. Cambage scored 18 points in the first quarter to give the Wings a 25-20 advantage after the opening period.
Indiana came back in the second quarter, outscoring the Wings 23-14 and grabbing a 43-39 lead at the break. Cambage led the way for the Wings with 23 first-half points.
The Wings battled in the third quarter, but never got within four points of the Fever as Indiana held a 70-63 heading into the fourth.
The Fever went on to pick up a 84-78 win over the Wings. Cambage led the way for the Wings with her fifth 30-plus point game. Kaela Davis scored 15 points on 6-for-11 from the field, while Azurá Stevens scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked a career-high five shots.
Six Fever players scored in double figures, led by Cappie Pondexter with 18 points on 7-for-10 from the field.
The Wings will head back home for a two-game homestand against the Washington Mystics on August 5 before taking on the Connecticut Sun on August 8. Tip-off against the Mystics is set for 3 p.m. CT.
