Wings Extend Win Streak With Win Over Mercury

ARLINGTON, TX. –  The Wings continued their four-game win streak with a 101-72 blowout victory over the Phoenix Mercury, which marked their fourth 100-point game of the season and broke a franchise record for most 100-point games in a single season.

The Wings and the Mercury battled back and forth in a physical first quarter. The Wings extended their lead to as many as 15 points and used a 12-2 run to take a 32-19 after the opening period.

In the second quarter, the Wings continued to extend their lead over the Mercury. Azurá Stevens scored 12 points in the second quarter to give the Wings a 59-39 halftime lead. The 12 second-quarter points are the most she has scored in a single quarter in her career. The 59 first-half points are tied for the most the Wings have scored in the first half this season. Diggins-Smith also scored 12 points in the opening half, while adding three assists. Aerial Powers tallied 10 points off the bench.

The Mercury fought back early in the third quarter, but the Wings used a 10-0 run to finish the quarter and take a 24-point lead, 80-56, into the fourth.

The Wings secured a 101-72 win over the Mercury, which tied a season-high 29-point margin of victory. Diggins-Smith led the Wings in scoring for the 11th time this season, scoring 20 points on 9-for-16 from the field. She also led the Wings in assists for the 17th time this season. Powers scored a season-high 18 points on 6-for-11 shooting to lead the Wings’ bench. Stevens recorded her fourth straight double-digit performance, recording 15 points and a career-high seven rebounds.

The Mercury were led by Brittney Griner, who tallied 21 points and three rebounds.

The Wings head west for a two-game road trip against the Los Angeles Sparks July 12 and the Seattle Storm on July 14. Tip-off against the Sparks is set for 2:30 p.m. CT.
