LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Wings continued their five-game win streak with a 92-77 win over the Los Angeles Sparks and move in to a tie for third place behind a dominate fourth quarter in which the Wings used a 21-2 run to seal the game.
The Wings grabbed an early lead over the Sparks before the Sparks used an 11-4 run to tie the game at 19 late in the first quarter. Two Azurá Stevens free throws gave the Wings a 21-19 lead heading into the second quarter.
Liz Cambage started the game hot with 12 points and six rebounds midway through the second quarter, but after two technical fouls she was ejected from the game. The Sparks took advantage of the ejection to take the lead 50-48 heading into the locker room. Skylar Diggins-Smith and Azurá Stevens each scored eight points in the opening half.
The Wings battled back in the third quarter behind Diggins-Smith and Stevens, who combined for 17 points in the third quarter and helped regain the lead 69-65 heading into the final period.
The Wings dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Sparks 23-12 and cruising to a blowout victory over the Sparks, 92-77. Diggins-Smith recorded her second double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 21 points and tied a season high with 11 assists. Stevens scored 16 points off the bench on 5-for-11 from the field and tallied six rebounds. Cayla George scored a season-high 12 points on 6-for-7 shooting and added four rebounds. Glory Johnson scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Sparks were led by Candace Parker, who scored 21 points and added seven rebounds.
The Wings wrap up their two-game road trip against the Seattle Storm on July 14 before returning home for a two-game stretch against the New York Liberty on July 17 and the Washington Mystics on July 19. Tip-off against the Storm is set for 8 p.m. CT.
