Wings 2019 Draft Class Q&A: Kennedy Burke

Next up in the Dallas Wings 2019 Rookie Question and Answer series is the No. 22 pick, Kennedy Burke. Burke is one of only four Bruins to have scored 1,000 points, grab 500 rebounds and tally 100 blocks during her time at UCLA. The 6-foot-1 guard was voted to the Pac-12 All Defensive Team and was an All-Pac-12 Honorable mention. She recently moved to ninth on the program’s all-time three-pointers made list and her 49.6 percent clip from the field was sixth best in the conference.

Q: What was the first thing that went through your head when you found out you were drafted?
A:”I was in shock because I saw my name. It was such a great moment – to think about – because I know I’ll remember that moment forever. The fact that I got to [watch the draft] with teammates and Mom, she drove all the way to UCLA from work, it was a great moment and I really appreciated that.”

Q: Give us three words that describe your game?
A: “Versatile, quick and long.”

Q: What’s one thing that our fans wouldn’t know about you?
A: “I love to watch scary movies. That’s my thing I’m always down to do, anytime of day, no matter what day it is. I’m always down to watch a scary movie. I could watch any type, old or new. It doesn’t matter. The last scary movie that I saw was Us. I’d say Orphan is my favorite scary movie. I’m also a kid at heart so I love all my Disney and Pixar movies.”

Q: If you could go back in time and tell younger you something, what would you say?
A: “I would say always believe in yourself and be confident. If you’re not confident in yourself then what’s the point of doing what you do.”

Q: Who has been a big influence on getting you to where you are today?
A: “My family. My Mom, Dad and sister have been consistent with me throughout my entire basketball career. I wouldn’t be in this position if it weren’t for them because they always believed in me. They’re my biggest supporters. I know they always have my back, no matter what.”

Q: Who do you model your game after?
A: “Growing up I was always a big fan of Diana Taurasi, but right now I’d say Elena Delle Donne.”
