Despite a furious onslaught in the fourth quarter, the Dallas Wings’ (10-21) comeback fell just short, as they dropped a 91-85 contest to the Washington Mystics (23-8) Saturday. Rookie phenom Arike Ogunbowale continued her scoring assault on the league with a game-high 30 points. She joins A’ja Wilson as the only other rookie to have three 30-point games and she is the third rookie to ever have dropped 30 or more in back-to-back outings.
The Rookie of the Year candidate extended her WNBA rookie record of eight consecutive games with at least 20 points. Saturday’s game also marked the 15th time Ogunbowale has eclipsed the 20-point mark. Tallying 543 points for her career thus far, she is tied with Elena Delle Donne for tenth most post during a rookie season. The Notre Dame product handed out seven assists tonight, tying her career high for dimes.
Glory Johnson scored a season-high tying 20 points for the Wings on an efficient 7-for-12 shooting. Allisha Gray also scored in double figures for Dallas, dropping 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
The Wings travel to Connecticut next for a 6 p.m. tip off against the Sun on Wednesday, Sept 4.
