Ogunbowale Scores 35 But Dallas Wings Fall To Chicago Sky, 83-74
Arlington, TX (May 18, 2024) – Despite a 35-point showing from guard Arike Ogunbowale, the Dallas Wings fell at home to the Chicago Sky 83-74 Saturday night at a sold-out College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. It marked the fourth consecutive sellout for the Wings, dating back to last season.
Ogunbowale made six threes and was 11-of-11 from the free-throw line – one make shy of the Wings record for free-throws made without a miss. The 35-point total is the most she has scored since going for 41 on June 17, 2023, against the Seattle Storm. With two steals, Ogunbowale moved into a tie for fourth with Cheryl Ford on the Dallas Wings all-time steals list at 224.
The Wings (1-1) announced on Thursday they were down another starter, as Game 1’s leading rebounder Natasha Howard broke her foot in Wednesday’s win. Also sidelined with injuries were Jaelyn Brown and WNBA All-Star Satou Sabally. The shorthanded Wings saw second-year forward Maddy Siegrist and rookie forward Stephanie Soares earn their first career starts on Saturday night.
Kalanie Brown was one rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Sevgi Uzun tallied nine points and a team-high six assists. The Wings shot .348 from the field and .389 from three.
Turnovers proved to be the difference in the setback as Dallas committed 26 on the night resulting in 34 points for the Sky. The Wings committed seven in the fourth quarter, including two with under 2:39 to play and only trailing by three.
Dallas led by as many as 14 in the second half before the Sky (1-1) scored 53 points over the final 20 minutes to steal the win. Chicago saw six finish in double figures, with Diamond DeShields tallying a team-high 16 points. The Sky shot 40-percent from the field and 19-percent from three, while earning the edge on the glass, 42-40.
The Wings begin a five-game road stretch on Tuesday at the Atlanta Dream (1-0), which play tonight against Phoenix. Tipoff at Gateway Center is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT, and the game will air on Bally Sports Southwest Extra.
