Arike Ogunbowale was named WNBA Rookie of the Month for August, the League announced today. Ogunbowale averaged a league-best 24.9 points per game in the 11 games played during the month, shooting 44.1 percent from the floor and 43.6 from the three-point line. Her 274 total points scored during August are tied for the most point scored by a rookie in any month in WNBA history. In that time, the first-year guard also put together a WNBA rookie year record eight games of scoring 20 points or more, including three 30-point games, two of them coming in back-to-back games. She’s tied for the most 30-point games as a rookie and she is one of three rookies to ever have back-to-back 30-point games. This is the second Rookie of the Month honor for the Notre Dame product and she is the third player in franchise history to receive the distinction.
