Catapulted by 35 points from Rookie of the Year contender Arike Ogunbowale, the Dallas Wings (8-17) toppled the Los Angeles Sparks 84-78 Wednesday night at College Park Center. The Notre Dame product’s output is tied for fifth most by a rookie in WNBA history. It’s also the second most points by a Wings’ rookie and is tied for ninth most points scored in a game in franchise history.
Ogunbowale’s career-high is the ninth time she’s collected 20 or more and her nineteenth game of 10 or more this season. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin native has been the team’s leading scorer fourteen times this season and shot a blistering 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from the field tonight.
Glory Johnson was the team’s second leading scorer, tallying a season-high 20 points on a career best five-of-six from beyond the arc. Johnson made her first five three’s, tied for second most consecutive three-pointers made in franchise history.
The Wings started the game on a 12-2 run and outscored the Sparks 28-14 in the fourth quarter, ripping off a 20-6 run at one point. The 28 points scored by the Wings in the closing quarter are the most that Dallas has scored in any quarter this season.
After snapping the Sparks’ five-game win streak, the Wings are back in action from College Park Center Friday, August 16 against the New York Liberty for Cool for School Night, presented by Texas Life Insurance.
