Dallas Wings Sign Kalani Brown

Arlington, TX (May 30, 2023) – The Dallas Wings have signed Kalani Brown to a rest of season contract under the League’s emergency salary cap hardship provision, the team announced today.

The Wings qualified for the provision with injuries to Lou Lopez Senechal and Diamond DeShields. Brown will be available to play in tonight’s game vs. the Minnesota Lynx and will remain with the team until the return of either Lopez Senechal or DeShields.

Lopez Senechal underwent successful knee surgery on May 24 and is expected to return in approximately eight weeks. DeShields is also dealing with a knee injury and is expected to miss at least three months.

Brown, who spent the 2023 training camp with the Wings, averaged 22.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks this past season with Maccabi Bnot Ashdod in Israel. She has spent parts of three years in the WNBA from 2019-2021 playing for the Atlanta Dream and Los Angeles Sparks. Brown is a graduate of Baylor University, where she was the 2018 Big 12 Player of the Year, and a member of the 2019 National Championship squad. She was drafted seventh overall in the 2019 WNBA draft by the Los Angeles Sparks.

In addition to the loss of Lopez Senechal and DeShields, the Wings will also be without Teaira McCowan for an extended period of time during the month of June. McCowan is scheduled to depart the team on May 31 to compete for Turkey in the 2023 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket.
