Dallas Wings Select Kennemer Middle School Duo to Participate in Game Growers

Arlington, Texas – The Dallas Wings for the third straight year have partnered with Nike, the WNBA and NBA for Nike Game Growers, a unique and empowering opportunity for girls to share their ideas on how to encourage more girls to play sports. This season, the Dallas Wings have selected co-captains MaKenzie and Jaleeya from Kennemer Middle School of Duncanville ISD to participate.  The program kicks off this Friday, January 28th as MaKenzie and Jaleeya will participate in a virtual Nike Game Growers Camp, where every team’s co-captains will gather for a virtual meeting session to discuss their proposed plans.

Nike Game Growers was formed to address girl’s participation in sports, as after eighth grade, girls are 50% more likely to drop out of athletics than boys. Nike Game Growers aims to amplify the applicant’s ideas but supporting their goals & partnering with WNBA & NBA teams to bring their concepts to life engaging girls in sports around the country. Dallas Wings Center Charli Collier recently surprised MaKenzie and Jaleeya to inform them that they were chosen as Dallas Wings Co-Captains.

Co-captains are chosen from many applications from seventh and eighth grade girls, age 13 or older, based on their idea’s creativity, feasibility, clarity, and potential for impact. Those interested in learning more about the Game Growers program can visit www.gamegrowers.com for more information.
