Dallas Wings Host Atlanta Dream in Home Opener
ARLINGTON, TX – The Dallas Wings tip-off the team’s 2018 season at the University of Texas at Arlington’s College Park Center on Sunday, May 20 at 2 p.m. The Wings will host the Atlanta Dream on a day all fans in attendance will receive a complimentary “Rise Together” t-shirt and College Park Center concession stands will feature $1 hot dogs (while supplies last).

PREGAME FESTIVITIES
The Wings have added new experiences for fans to enjoy, including a ceremonial pre-game tradition that will begin at the home opener. In an effort to enhance the team’s home court advantage, Dallas Cowboys running back Rod Smith will serve as a special guest in a new tradition where he will lead the crowd in a “Let’s Go Wings” chant moments before tip-off. Prior to tip, the Wings will host the CIGNA Youth Basketball Clinic, in partnership with the Tamika Catching Catch the Stars Foundation. Catchings, a former WNBA All-Star, and Duncanville, TX native will be in attendance for the event.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN
The Dallas Wings kicked off the 2018 season in Phoenix where they fell to the Mercury, 86-78, despite four Wings players scoring in double figures. In their opening game, the Wings outrebounded the Mercury 40-32, including a 12-3 advantage on the offensive glass.
AT HOME
Entering their third season in Arlington, the Wings boast a 16-18 record while at home, recording their best record at College Park Center last season with a 10-7 record.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Following Sunday’s home opener the Wings will hit the road for a nine day road trip that will start in Minnesota against the defending WNBA champion Lynx. The team will then travel east for battles with the Atlanta Dream and New York Liberty before heading home for a June 2 tilt against the Seattle Storm.
LEO POWER
Liz and Skylar led the charge in the Wings opening game. The pair each scored 18 points, while Skylar led the team with nine assists and Liz led the team with nine rebounds. The duo dominated the fourth quarter, scoring 15 of the Wings 23 fourth quarter points and pulling the Wings back into the game.
AUSSIE BOOM
Liz Cambage made her season debut against the Mercury and held her own against All-WNBA selection Brittney Griner. Cambage tied for a team high with 18 points, while also leading the team with nine rebounds. She also added four assists and two blocks. It was an impressive game from the 6-foot-8 Australian, who saw her first WNBA action since the 2013 season.
BEYOND THE SKY
Skylar Diggins-Smith continued right where she left off last season, scoring 18 points in her 2018 debut. The 2017 First-Team All-WNBA selection scored 11 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter to pull the Wings back in the game. She also added a team high nine assists, six rebounds and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
DAVIS DOMINATES
Kaela Davis led the bench in scoring with 10 points in the opening contest. Davis scored her 10 points in just 12 minutes of action on 4-for-7 shooting, including 1-for-2 from behind the arc. The All-Rookie selection from a season ago provided a spark off the bench for the Wings and was an efficient scoring option for the second unit.
GLORIOUS GLORY
Glory Johnson returned for her 6th season, dominating the floor scoring 12 points and grabbing 8 boards to start the 2018 season before leaving with an injury with just four minutes to play in the game. Last season Johnson started and played in 33 of 34 games, while averaging 14.9 points and 9.1 rebounds. Overall in her career, Johnson averages 13.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
