Dallas Wings Hire Zak Buncik, Finalize 2022 Coaching Staff

Arlington, Texas – The Dallas Wings have hired Zak Buncik as the team’s Player Development Coach, the organization announced today. Head Coach Vickie Johnson returns for her second season leading the club, after reaching the playoffs in her first season with the Wings. Also returning are assistant coaches Kelly Raimon and Le’Coe Willingham.

“We are very excited to add Zak to our coaching staff,” Head Coach Vickie Johnson said. “He has spent a tremendous amount of time around the game of basketball and most importantly has established relationships with many of our players, so there is an established level of trust in place. He has worked at all levels of the game with both women and men, and we look forward to seeing the impact he will have on this team as we prepare for the start of the 2022 season.”

Buncik most recently oversaw Zak Buncik Player Development, a local private sector player development program, where he worked with all levels of basketball players including several Wings players, Desmond Bane of the Memphis Grizzlies and Jemerrio Jones, who recently spent time with the Los Angeles Lakers. From 2008-2018, Buncik served on the men’s basketball coaching staff at UTA Arlington under Head Coach Scott Cross. While at UTA Arlington, Buncik helped develop two Associated Press All-Americans in Kevin Hervey and Marquez Haynes.

“This is an incredible opportunity and coaching staff to be joining and I am overjoyed about joining the Dallas Wings and Coach Vickie Johnson’s coaching staff,” Buncik said. “Coaching professional basketball has long been a career goal of mine and I am ecstatic to be staying local and being able to continue to work with some of the most talented players in the game of women’s basketball with the Wings.”
