Dallas Wings End Homestand Against Las Vegas Aces Tonight

ARLINGTON, TX – The Dallas Wings will complete their homestand tonight, as they go up against the Las Vegas Aces inside College Park Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game can be seen on FOX Sports Southwest Plus.

CELEBRATING PRIDE

Tonight, the Dallas Wings will hold their PRIDE game in honor of the league’s PRIDE month initiative. All fans will have the opportunity to purchase a PRIDE shirt, with part of the proceeds going to the LGBT aging coalition. Special guest for tonight’s “Lets Go Wings” chant will be David Taffett, of the Dallas Voice.

AGAINST THE ACES

Tonight’s matchup will mark will mark the first time the two teams will meet for the 2018 season and 56th overall. The Wings lead the series, 29-26.  Last season, the Wings went 3-0 in the series against the then San Antonio Stars. Their biggest game of the stint occurred in San Antonio 81-69 behind Skylar Diggins-Smith’s game-high 30 points and five assists. Forward Theresa Plaisance scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. The last matchup in Dallas ended with an 81-78 Wings victory behind Glory Johnson’s 25 points and 10 rebounds. Skylar Diggins-Smith and Karima Christmas-Kelly each added 16 points.

AGAINST THE WEST

The Wings are 1-3 against the Western Conference, their only win coming against the Seattle Storm. The Wings lost the opening game of the season to the Mercury and fell to the 2017 WNBA Champion Minnesota Lynx on the road. Against the Storm, the Wings were led by Skylar Diggins-Smith and Liz Cambage who combined for 52 points in a 94-90 win. Most recently, the Wings fell to the Mercury at home, 75-72. The Wings will open a seven-game stretch against Western Conference opponents when they take on the Las Vegas Aces at home on Friday.

The Wings currently lead the league in opponents’ field goal percentage. Their stingy defense is holding opponents to just 39.4 percent from the field. They are the only team in the league holding opponents to under 40 percent shooting. The Wings are also in the top half of the league in opponents three-point percentage. In addition to the field goal percentages, the Wings are forcing over 13 turnovers per game, while leading the league in blocks with over six blocks per game.

DALLAS WINGS BLOCK PARTY

The Wings continue to top the league in blocks, swatting 49 shots over their first eight games. With 12 blocks against the Atlanta Dream, the Wings set a franchise record and the WNBA season high for most team blocks in a single game. The block party was led by 6-foot-8 center Liz Cambage, who swatted a team-high four shots against the Dream and ranks second in the WNBA with 2.4 blocks per game. Skylar Diggins-Smith tallied three blocks against the Dream and ranks second on the team and tenth in the league with 1.1 blocks per game. Rookie Azurá Stevens is second among rookies with 0.75 blocks per game.
