Awak Kuier to forgo 2024 WNBA season

ARLINGTON, Texas (Jan. XX, 2024) – Dallas Wings forward Awak Kuier will skip the 2024 WNBA season, the team announced today. Kuier, a native of Finland, plans to return to the Wings in 2025. 

“After a great deal of thought and consideration, I have decided to sit out the upcoming 2024 WNBA season,” Kuier Stated. “I have been playing professional basketball continually for 7 years and believe it is in my best interest to take some time off to rest and give my body a break from year-round play. I’m going to miss my teammates, the staff and the Wings fans greatly. I look forward to returning to the team in the summer of 2025 and helping the Wings compete for a WNBA Championship.”

Kuier appeared in 37 games for the Wings in 2023. The 6-6 forward was the second overall pick byDallas in 2021.

“While we will miss Awak this season, we understand and are supportive of her decision to take the summer off,” Wings President & CEO Greg Bibb stated. “We look forward to rooting for her as she completes her overseas season and welcoming her back to North Texas in 2025.”
