Wings Lose First Game of Road Trip

ATLANTA, GA. – The Wings fell to 14-16 on the season with a 92-82 loss to the Atlanta Dream in the first game of a three-game east coast road trip.

The Dream jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and held on to a 29-17 advantage heading into the second.

The Wings battled back to within five points midway through the second quarter, but the Dream pulled away and took a 49-39 lead into the locker room. Skylar Diggins-Smith led the Wings in the first half with 13 points.

Atlanta extended their lead to 13 points, as they led 70-57 heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Wings used a 10-0 run to pull within three. But the Dream countered and coasted to a 92-82 victory. Diggins-Smith recorded her 13th 20-point game of the season with 26 points on 11-for-27 from the field. She also recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 assists.

Theresa Plaisance scored 13 points and added four rebounds, while Tayler Hill, Azurá Stevens and Kayla Thornton each added 10 points.

The Dream were led by Renee Montgomery who scored 24 points on 8-for-9 from the field, including 6-for-7 from beyond the arc.

The Wings will travel to Washington on August 12 for a rematch with the Mystics before heading to Connecticut on August 14 for the series finale against the Sun. Tip-off against the Mystics is set for 2 p.m. CT.
