Arlington, TX – In their third overtime game of the season, the Dallas Wings battled it out against the Phoenix Mercury, falling to Phoenix in a close game 101-100.
In final action, Allisha Gray turned up the heat, when she stole the ball to put the Wings up by a basket (87-85), after the team was down by four to start the fourth quarter. With 14.4 seconds left in the fourth, Glory Johnson pulled the Wings up after grabbing the rebound to put back a lay-up and tie the game.
During overtime play, the Wings and Mercury continued the battle going back and forth. With 3:06 left, the Wings took command, taking a 96-90 lead, until the Mercury came back to take one-point lead with a little over a minute left. The Wings came back, when Gray was sent to the line to pull the Wings within one, but were unable to finish, falling by one.
Four Wings players scored in double figures for the night, with Johnson leading the way, recording her 11th double-double of the season with 25 points and 15 total rebounds. Johnson also led the way in assists dishing out five. Gray ended the night with 19 points, recording the second highest for the night. She also stole four, tying a season high. Kayla Thornton recorded 15 points a new season high, while Skylar Diggins-Smith scored 13.
The Wings will head to Connecticut to face the Sun this Saturday, before returning home the following Saturday, when they host Atlanta for their Breast Health Awareness Night.
