WASHINGTON, TX – The Dallas Wings took on the Washington Mystics to play in the first round of the 2017 WNBA Playoffs tonight, falling 86-76.
Aerial Powers led the way coming off the bench recording 21 points and six total boards for the night. Coming into the third quarter Powers had recorded 15 points with just 14 minutes of total play. She went 8-for-9 from the free throw line and recorded six total boards.
The Wings held on tight in the first half, going on a 13-0 run in the second quarter, after being down 32-19 with 5:06 in the quarter. The run started when Allisha Gray banked the shot from the free throw line. With 0.8 second left, Aerial Powers scored on a running lay-up to tie the game and go into the half 34 all.
Two other Wings ended in double figures for the night joining Powers. Glory Johnson and Diggins-Smith ended the night with 15 points each. Johnson led the way in total boards with 14 to record her 14th double-double of the season, and first in the playoffs. On top of the 15 points for Diggins-Smith, she brought in two total boards and three assists for a grand performance in her first playoff game of her career.
The Wings end the regular season with a 16-18 record and 0-1 in playoff action. This year marked as the first time since 2015 that the team would make the playoffs, with only three Wings members seeing postseason action.
