Dallas Wings Liz Cambage, Cayla George and Allisha Gray will join their respective countries in the upcoming weeks as training camp opens for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
The games will take place in Tenerife, Spain from September 22-30.
Centers Cambage and George have been selected to the 12-man roster and will represent team Australia during the games, under the helm of the Phoenix Mercury’s head coach and native Australian Sandy Brondello. Australia will participate in Group B with Nigeria, Argentina and Turkey. They open their tournament with a game against Nigeria on September 22.
Gray will join Team USA’s training camp scheduled to take place in Columbia, South Carolina. The camp will open with an 18-man roster with the final 12 to be selected prior to the team’s departure to Tenerife, Spain. Following two days of practice, Gray and the USA squad will begin exhibition play starting with a Red-White intrasquad contest at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia on Sept. 5. The team will then compete against Team Canada on Sept. 8 and round out with Japan at 7 p.m. on Sep 10. All games to be played on U.S. soil. Team USA will participate in Group D at the world cup with China, Latvia and Senegal.
