Overseas Player of the Week, Jan 10-16; Kayla Thornton

Kayla Thornton has been named Dallas Wings Overseas Player of the Week for the week of January 10-16. This is the third time during the overseas season she has been tabbed the award.

Thornton had two outstanding performances this past week, scoring over 20 points in back-to-back games. On January 11, she was one-point shy from tying her season high in points, scoring 28. She also recorded a season high in total rebounds with 15 (2 offensive and 13 defensive). The 13 defensive boards were the most she’s grabbed this season.

Overall for the week, Thornton recorded a total of 51 points, 24 rebounds, six assists and two steals in just two games played. She is the third best player overall in the Women’s Korean Basketball League, averaging 19.2 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. She also ranks second in the league in free throw percentage at 85%, and sits third in steals averaging 3.0 per game.

Up next for Thornton and the S-Birds is a match-up with team Winnus on Jan 18. It marks the fifth time the S-Birds will go up against them this season. Thornton had a standout performance in their first match-up against eachother, scoring a season high of 29 points. Shinhan Bank leads the series 3-1.
