The Dallas Wings continue their nine-day road trip as they head east to face the Atlanta Dream for the second time in under one week. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and can be seen on the WNBA’s league pass.
BEAST AGAINST THE EAST
The Wings dominated their home opener against Eastern Conference opponent the Atlanta Dream, 101-78. The win puts the Wings at 1-0 against the East with two more Eastern conference games coming up as the Wings take on Atlanta and New York in back-to-back road contests.
TRAVELING TWO MORE TIMES
The Wings head east for game two of a three game road trip and a rematch with the Atlanta Dream before traveling to New York for a tilt against the Liberty. The team will return home for a June 2 contest against the Seattle Storm.
A PERFECT PAIR
For the third straight game, Skylar Diggins-Smith and Liz Cambage led the way for the Wings. The pair combined for 26 points against the defending champion Lynx. The duo is dominating through the first three games and both players find themselves ranked in the top 15 in the WNBA in scoring – the third highest scoring duo in the league at 18.0 points per game. Diggins-Smith and Cambage will look to continue this pace as one of the highest scoring duos in the league.
AUSTRALIAN SENSATION
Liz Cambage continued her dominance, earning her first double-double since returning to the WNBA. She scored 14 points and added 12 boards against the Minnesota Lynx. The 2011 WNBA All-Star blocked three shots in just her third WNBA game since 2013, and she currently ranks first in the league with three blocks per contest. The 6-foot-8 phenom leads the Wings in rebounding at 10 rebounds per game and ranks second on the Wings with 17.7 points per game. Cambage is one of only five players in the WNBA averaging a double-double.
TOUCH THE SKY
Skylar Diggins-Smith scored 12 points and dished out seven assists against the defending champion Minnesota Lynx. The five-year veteran’s 18.3 points per game ranks eighth in the WNBA, while her 6.0 assists per contest are good for third in the league. Diggins-Smith, a 2017 First-Team All-WNBA selection, ranks in the top three for the Wings in points, assists, steals, blocks and minutes per game.
KAYLA THE KID
Kayla Thornton earned her second start of the season against the Minnesota Lynx and made the most of her opportunity. The third-year forward scored 11 points, nine rebouGnds and four assists. She also tallied a career-high in seven different categories against the Lynx including three pointers made and attempted and free throws made and attempted. She set a career-high with four assists, eight defensive rebounds and a new high in minutes played at 36.
GETTING TO THE CHARITY STRIPE
The Wings are currently first in the league with 67 free throw attempts in their first three games. They are shooting 77.6 percent from the line, which is good for sixth in the league. Karima Christmas-Kelly holds the 2018 single-game high for both free throws made and attempted when she went 11-for-14 from the charity stripe against the Atlanta Dream in the home opener. Skylar Diggins-Smith is a perfect 12-for-12 from the stripe, while Liz Cambage is 9-for-12 from the line.
SHOT BLOCKING SEASON
With 10 blocks against the Atlanta Dream, the Wings tied the WNBA season high for most team blocks in a single game. The block party is led by 6-foot-8 center Liz Cambage, who swatted a team-high four shots against the Dream and ranks first in the WNBA with 3.0 blocks per game. Six-foot-six rookie forward Azurá Stevens ranks second on the team and second among rookies with 1.3 blocks per game.
CLEANING UP THE GLASS
The Wings currently rank second in the WNBA with 113 total rebounds. Liz Cambage leads the way, averaging 10 rebounds per game – fifth best in the league. Karima Christmas-Kelly is averaging 5.7 boards, while Kayla Thornton is averaging 5.3 rebounds for the second-best rebounding team.
