The Wings take on the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, July 2nd at the College Park Center. It is the first matchup between the two teams this season. Both teams played in the 2016 preseason finale, where the Suns beat the Wings 108-90.
Last year, the two teams split the season series 1-1. The Wings, as the Tulsa Shock, lost 80-74 in Connecticut and beat the Sun 84-76 in Tulsa. Odyssey Sims scored 19 and Jordan Hooper went 3-for-5 from behind the arc in the win at Tulsa.
In their previous game, the Wings beat the Seattle Storm 83-78 in Seattle. Dallas trailed 65-64 after three quarters, but outscored the Storm 19-13 in the final frame. It was only the second time this season that Dallas has come back to win when behind to start the fourth.
With 19 points on Thursday night at Seattle, rookie Aerial Powers led the Wings in scoring for the fourth time this season. Powers is one of two bench players to lead the Wings in scoring (Theresa Plaisance at New York on May 18).
Connecticut comes to Arlington on a 3-game losing streak. The Sun’s last win came at home vs. San Antonio on June 19th. Third-year guard Alex Bentley is the team’s leading scorer with 13.8 points per game, and second-year forward Alyssa Thomas leads the Sun with 5.5 rebounds per game.
Over the Wings’ recent four-game winning streak dating from June 16 to June 23, Wings guard Odyssey Sims shot .472 from the field, compared to her .383 season percentage. During that same four-game streak, guard Skylar Diggins scored 18.8 points per game on .510 shooting.
