Storylines

The New York Liberty make their first trip to Dallas in the Wings’ regular season home finale on Sunday. Dallas is looking for its first win over New York this season, falling to the Liberty by scores of 79-71 on May 15 and 91-88 on June 14.

Forward Theresa Plaisance scored 14 off the bench and Courtney Paris recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds in the May 15 loss at Madison Square Garden. Dallas returned one month later, but the Wings’ season-high 15 three-pointers were not enough in the 91-88 loss.

Dallas’s 92-84 win in San Antonio on Friday night snapped the Wings’ 11-game losing streak and kept the team’s playoff hopes alive. Odyssey Sims’ 20 points helped the Wings to finish 3-0 this year against their Texas rival.

Sunday afternoon marks the final Wings home game of the regular season. Dallas hits the road next weekend for games at Connecticut on Friday and Indiana on Sunday.

The Wings will try to slow down Liberty forward Tina Charles. Charles, a seventh-year player out of the University of Connecticut, leads the league in rebounds per game (9.9) and trails only Chicago’s Elena Delle Donne in points per game (21.2).

Odyssey Sims leads the team in scoring this year and ranks 13th in the league with 14.9 points per game. Along with guards Karima Christmas (12.1) and Skylar Diggins (13), the trio scores nearly half of the team’s 83.6 points per game average.

What the Wings are saying…

Head Coach Fred Williams- “New York is a playoff team. They have been one of the elite teams all year. It will be a tough challenge for us, but we are looking forward to going out and playing hard.”

Assistant coach Bridget Pettis- “The Liberty are a pretty experienced team that has been struggling of late, so we are going to try to jump on them from the start.”

Wings guard Karima Christmas- “They are a great team. They are very strong in this league. They have a strong post and guard presence. We’ll just have to defend all around and limit Tina Charles’s touches.”

Wings guard Erin Phillips- “They have got a few injuries, and came off a pretty tough loss this week. They are going to want to get some momentum and stay in one of those top spots. Until our playoff window shuts, we have to play everyone desperate so you’ll see some pretty fired up teams on both sides.”
