ARLINGTON, TX. – The Wings battled throughout the game, but a late Storm run gave Seattle a 97-76 victory and moves the Wings record to 6-6, including 4-2 at College Park Center.
The Storm came out of the gates strong and jumped out to a quick 16-8 before the Wings countered with a 5-0 run. Seattle led throughout and held a 29-26 advantage after the first quarter. Liz Cambage scored 10 points, while Skylar Diggins-Smith tallied five assists in the opening frame.
A quick Wings basket in the second brought the score to within one, but the Storm used an 18-4 run to pull ahead by 15 – their largest lead of the half. But the Wings rallied and outscored the Storm 10-2 to close out the half and cut the deficit to seven, 49-42. Cambage dominated in the first half, scoring 20 points on 7-for-9 from the field and adding three rebounds. The 20 points are the most she has ever scored in a half.
The Wings fought back to take the lead 56-55, their first lead of the game since they led 5-3 early in the first quarter. But the Storm regained the lead and took a 68-64 lead into the final quarter. Allisha Gray scored nine points in the third quarter to help pull the Wings back into the game.
The Wings were held scoreless for over five minutes in the fourth quarter and the Storm capitalized, using a 22-0 run to pull ahead 92-71 late in the game before securing a 97-76 Victory. The Wings were led by Cambage, who scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Gray totaled 12 points and two assists, while Diggins-Smith added 10 points and seven assists.
Breanna Stewart led the Storm with 28 points – her second 28-point performance against the Wings this season. She also added 12 rebounds. Sue Bird tallied a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.
The Wings will head out west for a back-to-back against the Los Angeles Sparks on June 26 and the Las Vegas Aces on June 27 before coming home for a three-game homestand.
