Arlington, TX – The Dallas Wings return home to host an early game tomorrow in honor of their “camp day.” Over 75 summer camps will be attending tomorrow’s matchup to cheer their favorite WNBA team on, as they face the San Antonio Stars. The day will be full of fun music and entertainment that will be fit for the young fans to enjoy. Tip-off is scheduled at noon.
The team is coming off a big 87-83 win over top ranked, the Washington Mystics. It is the second win over a team from the east. Glory Johnson had a standout performance ending the afternoon with 27 points, leading the team in scoring. She scored 16 points in the third quarter to help the Wings gain up on the Mystics. Skylar Diggins-Smith and Theresa Plaisance turned it up in the fourth quarter, combining for 15 points, most coming behind the 3-point arc.
On their home court, the Wings are 2-4 with big wins over the Fever and Sparks. Against the Fever on 5/30 the Wings took their first win of the 2017 season at College Park Center 89-62. It was the Wings largest margin of victory of 27 points with an 89-62 win. Karima Christmas-Kelly led the team tonight in points, breaking a career and season high with 27. She scored 19 points in the first-half to break the high. Christmas-Kelly went 10-for-14 from the field. It was also the third straight game this season she has scored double figured. The 10 field goals made also marked as a career high.
AGAINST THE WEST
The Wings are currently 3-4 against western conference opponents this season. When playing the west at home they are 1-2, with a 96-90 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on 6/9.
Against Washington on 6/18, Glory Johnson had a monumental game, scoring 16 points in the third quarter and ending the afternoon with 27, a new season high. The 16 points was also the most she has scored in a quarter this season. In the 13 games played, she has recorded five double-doubles, with the most recent one occurring against the New York Liberty, where she recorded 11 points and 11 rebounds. Her highest double-double also came against LA when she hit 24 points and 12 rebounds, leading the way for the Wings to defeat the 2016 WNBA Champions on 6/9. In the fourth quarter, she recorded 10 of the 24 points, the most she has recorded in a quarter this season. She remains in the top five amongst league leaders in boards at fourth. This season she is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game with a total of 114.
