Dallas Wings Open Two-Game Homestand With the Los Angeles Sparks

ARLINGTON, TX – The Dallas Wings will play two games at home this weekend starting off against the Los Angeles Sparks. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be seen on Fox Sports Southwest Plus.

The Dallas Wings will host African American Heritage Night. During halftime the Mavs Maniacs will be performing. 

AGAINST THE SPARKS

Tonight’s matchup will mark as the first between the Wings and Sparks for the season and the 59th overall.

The Sparks own the series, 37-21. In 2017 the Wings went 2-2 against the Sparks, winning both home matchups and losing both in Los Angeles. In the final meeting last season, Glory Johnson led the Wings with 23 points and added 13 rebounds to give the Wings an 85-79 over the 2016 WNBA champions. Karima Christmas-Kelly scored 17 points, while Skylar Diggins-Smith added 15 points. The Wings became the only team last season to sweep the Sparks on the road with the 2-0 at College Park Center.

HOME SWEET HOME

The Wings lost their first game of 2018 in College Park Center, falling to the Phoenix Mercury 75-72. In their four home games, the Wings are averaging 86.0 points per game and boast a 3-1 record. The team finished the 2017 season with an 11-7 home record and look to improve on that in 2018. The Wings will take on the Los Angeles Sparks in the first game of a two-game homestand. In the second game of the homestand, the Wings will take on the Seattle Storm. The Wings defeated the Storm 94-90 in their first matchup in College Park Center. Skylar Diggins-Smith and Liz Cambage combined for 52 points in the victory over Seattle.

WHERE WE STAND

The Wings are currently sixth in the WNBA standings with a 5-5 record. Since moving to Dallas, the Wings have never finished above seventh in the final standings. In their inaugural season, the Wings finished 11th in the league before improving to seventh in the 2017 season. The Wings are looking to record their first winning season since moving to the DFW area.

AGAINST THE WEST

The Wings are 2-4 against the Western Conference, their two wins coming against the Seattle Storm and the Las Vegas Aces. The Wings lost the opening game of the season to the Mercury and fell to the 2017 WNBA Champion Minnesota Lynx on the road. Against the Storm, the Wings were led by Skylar Diggins-Smith and Liz Cambage who combined for 52 points in a 94-90 win. Most recently, the Wings beat the Aces at home, 77-67. The Wings will play their fourth straight game in an 8-game stretch against Western Conference foes on Friday when they take on the Los Angeles Sparks at home.

TEXAS TWO-STEP

Liz Cambage and Skylar Diggins-Smith continue to lead the Wings. The duo combined for a season-high 58 points in the win against the Indiana Fever. Diggins-Smith is third in the WNBA in scoring, averaging 21.4 points, while Cambage is seventh in the league at 19.7 points per contest. Their combined 41.1 points per game makes the pair the highest scoring duo in the WNBA. Diggins-Smith is tied for the league-lead in assists with 5.9 per game, while Cambage is second in the WNBA averaging 10.4 rebounds per game and second in the league with 2.3 blocks per game. In the duos most recent performance, they combined for 33 points in a loss to the defending champion Minnesota Lynx. The pair will look to continue this pace as one of the most dominating duos in the league.
