Several Dallas Wings spent time at the Carr P Collins Social Services shelter this past Wednesday afternoon to serve dinner to the men, women and children who live in the shelter. The event was in partner with the Salvation Army.
Guards Skylar Diggins and Brianna Kiesel, along with forwards Plenette Pierson and Theresa Plaisance joined staff members of the shelter to serve hot delicious meals to the families and residents that are provided services there.
“We are so humble to be here and give back to the community,” said all-star guard Skylar Diggins. “To center ourselves in Dallas and be able to meet so many great people and be able to give back. That’s what it’s all about.”
The players assisted in setting tables inside the cafeteria, placing utensils and pretty flower arrangements in preparation for the daily dinner crowd, before serving the meal. In between rounds, the players sat with certain individuals of the shelter and shared words of hope and inspiration to them.
“It’s a very humbling experience,” said Forward Theresa Plaisance. “Everybody we have worked with today has been nice and really appreciative. It feels really nice to be able to give back to the community and feel good about giving back at the end of the day.”
The Dallas Wings continue their preparation against the Lynx this Saturday (June 4) at the Target Center in Minneapolis, before coming back for a two-game homestand against the Mystics (June 8) and LA Sparks (June 11). For tickets, go to www.dallaswingsbasketball.com
